Ford Kuga Facelift – 2012 Review, Release Date and Specifications

The Ford Kuga is a compact crossover sold in Europe since 2008 and has been rumored for a U.S. launch on several occasions in the recent past. The vehicle is now due for a mid-cycle update and the first prototypes have already been spotted testing in Germany.

Set to go on sale in Europe next year as a 2012 model, the latest Kuga will be wearing a set of new bumpers similar to the ones seen on the 2012 Ford Focus, and will likely feature a new range of efficient EcoBoost engines as well.

As for a U.S. launch, there are rumors that the next-generation of the Kuga will be built at a Ford plant in the U.S. as a replacement for the Escape. Like the current Kuga, this new model will also be based on the same C-Car platform underpinning cars like the Focus and C-Max.

Ford is expected to build this new Kuga at its Louisville plant in Kentucky and there was speculation that the U.S.-built versions would even be exported back to Europe. However, fluctuating exchange rates and labor costs have ruled out that option, according to Bloomberg.

This facelifted version, meanwhile, is unlikely to appear in local showrooms anytime soon.
